Hottest Day of the Year Fishing July 2021

It was absolutely one of the hottest days of the year today.  I went out for a few hours after work tonight.  Success as you can see!  I tried the Zoom Flukes for about 10-15 minutes with no luck.  So I moved to the good old trusty Texas Rig Worm.  Boom!  I was able to catch some fish.

Black Zoom Trick Worm for the first bass of the day. Good size bass. These are the 6-inch Zoom Trick Worms if you were wondering.  This is one of my favorite lures of all time.  I have a ton of confidence with it, and have not picked it back up since last fall.  It was fun to rig it up and catch fish again with it. I normally will use a 3/16oz black tungsten weight from Academy Sports H20 brand.  They are low profile, and gives the worm the optimal "drop" or "sink" rate that I think the fish really like.

The second and third bass I caught was on a Zoom Ol' Monster 10 and a half-inch worm in the Red Shad color.  These bass were bigger too!  They were both above 2 pounds.  Bigger bass definitely go after the bigger presentations.  I have had smaller bass go after these, but they definitely attract the bigger bass in this specific pond.  Again, I was using a 3/16oz tungsten weight.  I don't like to add a ton of weight because I like the drop speed to be slower.

I hope you are all successful in your fishing adventures and thank you for reading!  Stay committed, stay driven.

End of July Fishing Report 2021

Hey fishing family, I cannot believe it is already the end of July in 2021. Good news is Lil' Shaka and I are still catching fish in the hot summer.  It has been 95 degrees and super humid the last couple of days. I am still catching fish on Super Flukes by Zoom.  I use mono for fishing line, and I have played around this summer with different hooks when presenting the flukes.  The Gamakatsu G-Lock Hooks are one of my favorite hooks to use.  It is a lighter and smaller hook that allows the Zoom flukes "work their magic" just a bit more.

I think that action from the Fluke is triggering bites just a little bit more when I use these hooks.  I've had plenty of success with several kinds of hooks, but these seem to really trigger the fish! I hope you are all successful in your fishing journeys this summer.

Mid July 2021 Fishing Report

Hey Ohana! As you can see we are still catching fish in heat of the summer. The last week and a half has been very muggy with a lot of rain. The water has been stained quite a bit which has definitely affected what lures are getting bites.  I've been playing around with black and blue jigs in stained water, but no luck with the bites. The Zoom Super Flukes are still getting it done though. This beauty above was caught on on the Fluke bite! Yessah!

Lil' Shaka continues to be the Big Hammah for Team Shaka! For every fish I catch, he catches three or four right now.  His "secret lure" is still working at the neighborhood pond, and his "storm drain" technique continues to produce the BIGGINs!  We are definitely on a winning streak right now. Our game of bringing 5 fish into the boat is a lot of fun, and we are on a 8 game winning streak of doing this.  Yesterday we caught 7 bass, and they were all good size.

I am having a lot of fun with this dude, and we'll continue to fish out this summer and into the fall!  Stay committed, Stay Driven!

July 8th 2021 Fishing Report

We are in the dead heat of the summer. Let me tell you, we are still catching these bass. The last couple of days I've been messing around with a swim jig, or really it might be a tiny flippin' jig. I think it might be one of the little Strike King mini jigs. Either way, I have it paired up with a Googan Craw trailer. All I can say is I've had some really good success in the neighborhood pond over the last couple of days throwing this jig.

This isn't the first time I've thrown jigs, but this is absolutely the first time that I've had what I believe is the right equipment to throw jigs properly. Now that I'm getting more comfortable with braid, and also have the right baitcaster that is meant for throwing these type of lures...wow, it makes all the difference!

The Lil' Shaka and I put a couple goals together over the last couple of days. We are mimicking our favorite bass fisherman, and our goal is to put five fish in the boat every time we go! I think it's fun to do this with him as he continues to get better and better at fishing techniques. He's at an age now where he understands fishing tremendously, and it's fun to watch him really focus on the technique of the lures that he's throwing. The beauty of the whole thing is when he gets bit and is able to bring the bass to the bank, he is now completely hooked into fishing. I really hope this is something we are going to do together until the day I die.

This dude has mainly been using wacky worms. Last night when it started to get dark he tried out a wacky worm from Bass Pro Shops in the bubblegum pattern. He was killing the bass!

Some of the things that I've noticed with jigs are that the bass can be very ferocious with the bite. But, they can also kind of peck at your jig lure as well. So it is a little bit different when you're setting the hook for jigs that you need to get used to. But I'm super excited that I've had some success on these jigs and of course it means I will need to supersize the amount of jig lures that I have. Hah!
I hope all of you that are out there fishing are having great success. I hope all of you are getting those tight lines and those tugs. Stay committed, stay driven. 🤙🏽

July 2nd 2021 Fishing Report

Today was a start to a long July 4th weekend. I biked out to the pond after my work calls today. It was around 82 degrees with no humidity. This is a break from the normal sweltering humidity we've had lately.

How I got better on this day
I did a couple new things today. First thing I accomplished was casting freely with a rod and reel combo outfitted with braid. I have some 50lbs H2O Xpress brand braid rigged up on my American Hero reel and rod combo by Lew's. I adjusted the magnet and tension screw and was able to get some nice, smooth casting.

Second thing I did was learn how to throw a weighted wacky worm lure. I was using a Creme Craw Colored stickbait with a jig head for weight.

As you can see in this picture I was also successful catching a bass using this weighted wacky worm. It was a lot of fun catching some bass in this setup.

I also caught some bass in the normal weightless wacky rig. I was using the green pumpkin and the Creme stickbait lure. Definitely having a great time getting some good fishing in this weekend.

Stay committed, stay driven Ohana.

Beginning of July 2021 Fishing Report

I went fishing yesterday morning at the neighborhood pond. I also went fishing after work today. The bass in the pond are definitely in post spawn mode. The bite has slowed down significantly. I guess the are sitting deeper, but I can tell you I have not had any luck on the Texas Rig yet this summer.
I was able to catch a few bass on my wacky worm rigs as you can see in the pic above. I am in love with these rigs and will continue to use this rig thoughout the year.
I also caught a few bass on the Zoom Flukes as you can see in the pic above. I also think this is a lure that will continue to produce in tough times during the year. I am so happy I learned how to use the fluke.
Stay Committed, Stay Driven my Ohana.🤙🏽
